Re The City as Problem Landlord (editorial, Nov. 27):

The de Blasio administration inherited a Housing Authority whose budget and resources had long been decimated by Congress, and which had an entrenched bureaucracy, ill suited for innovation and change.

In only a few years Shola Olatoye, the chairwoman of the New York City Housing Authority, has done remarkable work strategically deploying its limited resources, finding new revenue sources, and working to tackle its operational shortcomings.

But you cant fix those problems without federal funding that matches the scope of the 176,000 aging units that are home to 400,000 New Yorkers, and without sustaining the new direction that has seen real results.

Fearlessly confronting problems and maintaining a commitment to residents has been the hallmark of Ms. Olatoyes leadership. Abandoning innovative leadership in the face of pointless expediency sets back the cause of saving our most precious housing resource.
