On April 15, 2010, CHPC held its 51st Annual Luncheon, attracting more than 800 leaders in housing, planning, finance, and government. The Luncheon theme, TRANSFORMATION & RENEWAL, was about facing the challenges ahead while remembering all that we have overcome. From being symbols of urban decay, many of our neighborhoods have – through the efforts of those that we welcomed to the Luncheon – been rebuilt and transformed into thriving communities.

This year, CHPC was delighted to offer a Special Service Award to Mrs. Ruth Dickler for her lifetime of service to the work of CHPC. We presented our Impact Award for Excellence in Housing to Michael Schill, the founding director of NYU’s Furman Center, and the Impact Award for Excellence in Planning to Stephen Ross for his tireless work as Chairman, CEO, & Founder of The Related Companies.

We were pleased to present the Roger Starr Public Service Award to Rafael Cestero for his service to New York. The recipient of our Ibo Balton Community Planner Award was Joan Tally, Senior Vice President at the New York City Housing Development Corporation. And John Rhea, Chairman of the New York City Housing Authority delivered special remarks. Finally, The Honorable Michael A. Nutter, the Mayor of the City of Philadephia gave an inspirational keynote speech about the challenges and the progress acheived in his city in recent years.

The Luncheon also featured special performances by the Highbridge Voices children’s choir.
